Welcome to the 2011-2012 Bowling Season

The Annual Newletter and Tournament Applications Packet was mailed to members on Tuesday, September 6th. Please watch your mail for this envelope. If your membership has lapsed you were sent a postcard.

You will notice several new items for the 2011-2012 season.

First off, the starting tournament for the year is now a TRIO tournament and is open to all USBC members with the requirement that at least one team member be a current member of our club. It is hoped that bowlers who are eligible for our club but are not yet members will try us out at this tournament and wish to join. Our 700 Club Doubles tournament has been moved to the Saturday, repeat Saturday, after Easter, April 14, 2012.

Second, at the August Board of Directors meeting, the Directors approved a change in the entering average requirements. Bowlers will use the following criterion: 1) Previous year highest winter average (2010-2011 yearbook) of certified league of 21 games or more; 2) Year prior to that highest winter average (2009-2010 yearbook) of certified league of 21 games or more; 3) Current year highest average of 21 games or more includng sumer averages from certified league. It is the bowlers responsibility to use the correct entering average. Bowlers may be disqualified or receive reduced handicap if the average is incorrect. Tournaments have differing means of determining the entering average. Don't be disqualified for using an incorrect average.

Third, the basis for handicap has been changed to 230 for all tournaments. Handicap will be 90% of the difference in entering average and 230. The State Jamboree, Single's and 700 Double's tournaments will be on a per game basis, all others are based on a 3-game series.

Fourth, changes were made to the criteria for our Brackets and Jackpots. We ran Senior Handicap Brackets and Handicap Jackpots at the Singles Classic with much success. So we voted to add those to all our tournaments and see if they meet with the same success. Changes were also made to the Regular Handicap Brackets and Handicap Jackpots in that you now must receive a handicap in order to be eligible to particpate in those. The 2/3 maximum entry to the Handicap Brackets will remain. Scratch brackets entry will now be unlimited.

Lastly, the Board voted in April to remove the Honor Score prize and then recanted at the August meeting and approved it again. We will continue to pay $50 to every Ann Arbor 700 club member who bowls a 300 game or 800+ series in one of our club sponsored tournaments. In addition, we will pay any Ann Arbor 700 Club member that bowls one of the same in the State Jamboree or 700 Club National Invitational Tournament.

The State Jamboree is being sponsored by our club this year and is being held at Colonial Lanes on October 23rd. Let's see if we can come close to the 33 teams we had when we hosted 70 total teams in 2009.

Good Luck and Good bowling in the 2011-2012 Season!
